To Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} V8340 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/LGS.11.28. EXCESSIVE WEAR ON 40/50 SPHERES. V8340 X1457 We are very anxious to help all we can to overcome this fault but you will realise how difficult it is for us to suggest any improvements unless we can first of all reproduce it. As you are aware we have run this type of joint for at least 120,000 miles in France. The reason we mention the French testing is because on these tests the lubrication of these cars is carried out to a regular programme. The recommended instructions for lubrication are strictly adhered to. The cars in France run 500 miles per day and there is no question about them travelling fast. We have never had a case on any of these cars of excessive wear on the universal joint in the sphere. We should be very grateful if you could return to Derby one of the universal joints you complain of. We would prefer to see it in the condition it was taken off the car. If you can suggest any means by which you think we can reproduce the fault complained of by customers, we should be very pleased to consider it. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
