N-W Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Br despatches with yours Will ye Technical - deal with him Br1/S. 7.11.28 Excessive wear in 40/50 Spheres Thank you for your Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/SB{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister}19/MW6.11.28 together with copies of correspondence appertaining to the above-mentioned trouble. We are afraid, however, that this does not get the job much further. We have definitely established that there is something wrong with regard to the lubrication of these spheres. We, therefore, entirely agree with By's remarks, but we are afraid we cannot agree with Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} that if the oil is replenished as stated in the instruction book there will be no failure of the universal joint. The cars on which we have found the trouble are generally used for long fast journeys, such as between Scotland and London and across the Continent, etc. and if we are simply going to take up wear and tear and send the cars away again, there is bound to be a recurrence of the trouble. We think this matter is serious enough to receive immediate attention and for some modification to be got out to ensure the bushes and sleeves receiving adequate lubrication. It will be understood that until such a modification is decided upon, we can only take up wear and tear free of charge to the customer and anticipate recurrences of the trouble. We shall be glad to receive your further remarks. Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} | ||
