82924 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} MINUTES OF CONFERENCE AT DERBY May 31st,1932. Present whole time - Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} Present part time - R.{Sir Henry Royce} and RH.{R. Hollingworth} (chassis agenda only) " " " - Rg.{Mr Rowledge} (aero agenda only) CHASSIS Item 1 on agenda. General position re Peregrine and Bensport. Reported that a new head pattern is required for the Peregrine. The present head pattern can be modified to enable tests to be continued on the engine now on the bed by using smaller plugs. An entirely new design of head is required however, for ultimate satisfactory results and S. is working on this. The new head will most likely be common to Peregrine and Bensport. R.{Sir Henry Royce} and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} gave the rough results of tests so far as they have gone and indicated that design attention is necessary in several directions. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} gave the approximate date of June 30th for completion of a preliminary runnable Peregrine chassis having a scaled down J.III gear/box. R.{Sir Henry Royce} explained points of design in the specification of Bensport including clutch, rear axle and various accessories. Item 2 on agenda. J.III. Hn{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders}6/JE9/4.32. R1/M11.5.32. Note: Has J.III got the impossible type of first gear? Reported that J.III has got the impossible type of first gear. Left hand drawings have been sent to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} by R.{Sir Henry Royce} but gear box is not included as this is being dealt with at SW. R.{Sir Henry Royce} has spoken to R.{Sir Henry Royce} on the phone about the gear box and expects to hear from WW in a few days time. R.{Sir Henry Royce} said that he would discuss the first speed gear with R.{Sir Henry Royce} when next he meets him. R.{Sir Henry Royce} reported that several modifications are being put through to meet the criticism of HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} including a new cylinder head and self adjusting tappets. contd: | ||
