X.6115. LUCAS WINDSCREEN WIPER.

In your Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}3/M22.1.31 you refer to the "many failings of the Lucas windscreen wiper". As we intend taking this matter up with Messrs.Lucas we should be pleased to have your impression of what these failings are. The failings we have already noted are as follows :-

(1) Insufficient strength of teeth on driving spindle allowing these to shear especially when careless hand operation is attempted.

(2) Insufficient protection of the twin cable leading to the wiper allowing shorting to occur through the cable by the clips.

(3) Mechanism too light and flimsy preventing the wiper cleaning the glass sufficiently at medium and high speeds.

EFC.
