MARTINDALE Bentley Chassis Frame. SEE ME It is desired to try the effect of a side member of greater bending stiffness for the Bentley chassis frame used in conjunction with the all-steel body. In order to obtain an immediate test, on LeC 5054 herewith we show the side member increased in depth between the front end of the rear springs and the rear end of the front springs. By means of a channel bolted to the bottom flange of the existing frame, we understand that the Expl. Dept. have agreed that this additional channel can be made-up in three pieces by welding. We anticipate that this can be attached to an existing car without the removal of the body, although it might be convenient to remove the wings and running boards. The car used for this purpose, we suggest, should be that with the all-steel body, B 56 BN.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} The attachment bolts will need to be ream taper bolts. Any existing bolts can be allowed to pass through the extra member, or if more convenient, holes in that member can be drilled to clear. We also send herewith LeC 5053 showing a new side channel for the Bentley, having a maximum depth of 9", the extra depth being added at the base of the channel between the road springs. Should the experiment indicated on LeC 5054 prove to be successful, it will be desired to obtain one or more pairs of this new channel for experimental purposes, and we are sending you this scheme to enable you to immediately put in hand enquiries as to the cost of obtaining these by means of smithing blocks. Mr.Hunt of Messrs Thompsons, who we understand is at the moment producing the Bentley side members, was here on Tuesday and has offered to give this matter his consideration as soon as you put the proposition up to him. In the plan view the side channel is unaltered. EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Att: LeC 5054. LeC 5053. | ||
