Dear Sirs,
We beg to thank you for yours of the 26th inst., and note the improved results which you are getting with the Telegage installations which you are running.
We have no doubt that your assumption with regard to the lower day temperatures now being experienced has a considerable bearing on the matter. We think it rather goes to show that possibly half the over-night loss of 5% of the reading on the gauge is due to loss of volume owing to temperature drop, and the other half to [handwritten correction: Condensation] [crossed out: vaporisation].
Under any conditions, however, it is urgently necessary to keep the air pumping sufficiently vigorous to reduce this condensation loss to a minimum, at any rate within the limits of the capacity of the bell.
