X. 4329 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY3-P20.4.23. We have received a complaint from India that the shock absorbers on 41.G.9. were squeaking when the car was tried - they further stated that the use of the oil gun did not overcome this squeak and that they found it necessary to dismantle the shock absorbers in order to overcome the trouble. I do not think this is in accordance with our experience, either for the ball joints or for the friction surfaces, and I would therefore like you to dismantle some shock absorbers, wash them in paraffin and let them dry, then re-erect and oil them by means of the oil gun only. This would check whether our method of lubricating is satisfactory or not, because if what our Bombay Depot state is correct, it indicates that the oil gun scheme does not get the oil to the actual points where the bearing pressure is imposed. The foregoing experiment would definitely settle this point, where is an important one in view of the possibility of having complaints from customers if what Bombay state is correct. BY.{R.W.
