JAPAN 3. - REAR END.

DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/426.11.31.

We send herewith N. schs. 3376/77. shewing the petrol tank, luggage grid, rear apron, 1st. and 2nd. crossmembers, and exhaust swan neck, for Japan 3.

x5460. PETROL TANK. This is modelled on your Sch. 1458. originally done for J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3. We are starting off with a centrally vented tank using the single line Hobson Gauge as shewn on N. sch. 3197. already sent to you.

It will be seen that the spilling level is 3.250" above the full tank level.

We shall send you as a supplementary sch. a design for the electrical gauge and a simple central vent to the tank.

Due to the ever increasing inaccessibility of the petrol tank filter with modern coachwork H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} has agreed to test the first car without such fittings. As there will be no autovac all the water and foreign matter in the petrol will be collected in the Zenith filter which is more convenient for cleaning than the draining of the main tank.

x5880. SECOND CROSSMEMBER. This is reduced in depth to clear the rear cushion.

x5600. LUGGAGE CARRIER. The luggage carrier folds into, and is part of, the rear apron, which is believed to be a coming sales feature. We are anxious that you should get this item on the first chassis so that Sales may have a chance of seeing it at an early date.

We have indicated sufficient of the design of the rear apron to enable you to set out on the lines of those you have already done, which we would be glad if you would do, and send us a print.

There may be several further details to send you re. the luggage grid and its attachments to the rear crossmember.

x5330. EXHAUST SWAN NECK. This is the same in dia. and has the same fishtail as F.{Mr Friese} 2. has at present.

Will you please apply the present support to the fishtail from the rear crossmember as is now used.
