To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} From Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}7/ST.13.2.41. BENTLEY PUBLICITY. Herewith some notes I gave to Mr. Montague Tombs for his article on Hall's car. I asked him to emphasize as tactfully as he could that there was no comparison between the old type Bentleys and the Rolls-Bentley in the matter of average speeds, and I think he will do it. I have had a letter from Mr. Boddy of the Motor Sport, in which he promises to omit his unflattering reference to the Bentley's maximum speed in his article. At the same time he has asked me when he could try a Bentley V which was representative of the type and I have arranged that he shall have the Trials Car which I am returning to London today, on February 23rd. He will then make a reference to the speed of the car in another issue. Pomeroy is also waiting to try the car and wants to come up to Derby on it to get the information for the write-up on the "Corniche". Breeden has taken delivery of his car. We are having the B.V. prepared for Devereux at the Clan, to carry out the modifications on this. Barclay's gearbox is being changed for one of the few remaining production boxes, while we try and make his reasonably reliable. I hope we shall be able to get agreed that we can complete the half dozen "last word" boxes that were two thirds machined before the war started, otherwise a time will come when we shall have to take some B.V's off the road.
