-2- B.V. NO.5 UNIT. Has been rebuilt and later to be fitted in 10.B.V. New parts include new piston and new main bearing and cylinder head. Following running in check:- (a) Oil consumption and repeat if more 2 pts/hr. (b) Note whether any oil leak from rear end, if so we will fit plain ungrooved thrust washers for further trial. (c) Power open exhaust. (d) With silencer non detonating curve on Redline and Shell. Give governor characteristics with standard TDC setting. (e) Remove Delco distributor and hand to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs} who will produce an R.R. governor giving identical governor characteristic to Delco. Fit R.R. to unit and repeat (d). This is very important as it has been reported that even with the same governor characteristic and setting, the R.R. is worse for detonations than Delco. (f) Check valve bounce speed. (g) Engine gears to be quietened if necessary, both for whine and low speed full throttle rattle. (h) Set idling and generally tune up, curing all leaks ready for passing off for chassis. B.V. NO.1 UNIT. This unit is being assembled as a high power Continental unit for 14.B.V. Instructions for testing in the next memo. | ||
