We have cut the threaded bush into two pieces and find that the lubrication and condition of both the pin and the bush are perfect. We conclude that the whole trouble of seizure is due to dirt. It would therefore appear to be very beneficial if you could try to prevent dirt from getting on to the threaded parts, by fitting a better metal shield. For our next design of threaded shackles we are going to take particular care to prevent dirt getting on to the threads. We should like to know if the off side receives more dirt and whether you think dirt can be the cause of the trouble. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} | ||
