Exptl. Dept. 29th November, 1934. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}15/KW. J.N. Longley, Esq., Messrs. Ferodo Limited, Chapel-en-le-Frith. Dear Mr. Longley, Many thanks for your letter and photomicrographs. We will endeavour to get some drums made to the specification. We have just received some drums from the Wycliffe Foundry, and will let you have a photograph of the structure of these drums if they are successful. As to servo linings, we have tried both the polished VM.30 and the lining which you say has a rising characteristic on your rig. On our apparatus both these linings show about the usual 30% drop in output. We still therefore have nothing as good as the Halo and Mintex Zinc linings. The second of these two is inclined to squeak. We have not had sufficient running on the new type Halo to say whether this squeaks or not. Yours sincerely, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
