Report on bumping test of rear of chassis
to test the forward frame brackets of
Rear Springs F4273. - X.879

This test has been run on two previous occasions,
the first time for 6 hours 25 minutes and the second time for 15 minutes, see reports Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}2C/L25214 and Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}4/L
6314. On the last occasion the axle tube was broken.

A new double brake axle has now been fitted containing all the inside parts complete. The new drop forged axle boxes are included in this axle. 3" humps were used at 105 revs per minute. Palmer tyres were used.

After running.

6 hrs 40 mins. Run previously.

Second Cross Member from rear off side flange broken at top forward corner.
Frame cracked on top flange from body bolt hole between second and third member from rear to inside edge of frame, near side.

7 " 15 "
Frame cracked top flange from body bolt holes between third and fourth cross members from rear to inside edge of frame, both sides.
Fourth cross member from rear flange cracked on near side.
Second cross member from rear flange cracked from bottom off side.

7 " 30 "
Third cross member from rear both flanges cracked.
Second member from rear near side flange cracked, top front corner.
All the cracks in flanges spread rather rapidly when once started.
