Wer/My2/L17314. contd.

After running.

7 hrs 50 mins. Fourth member from rear flange cracked off side.

8 " 30 " Spring Brackets F2403 off side one broken, near side cracked at front.

The steel sphere had rotated a few degrees in its fixings during the tests. The shock to the frame and other parts is enormous during the bumping of the back wheels and the whole chassis gets into a violent sway. This causes the rear axle to get at a big angle with the frame and so makes the bronze sphere strike the shanks of the steel sphere at the side holes.

The rear springs rock up and down sideways on the axle rollers and wear near the edges. The brackets F4273 are still O.K. and do not seem to have a rough time at all. A new frame is now being built up after which the tests will be continued on the spring brackets and back axle.
