We have made three cold starts with the Stromberg Carburetter. (1) Three seconds were taken to start the engine. Air temperature 0°C. (2) One second to start. Air Temperature 1°C. (3) Seven seconds to start. Air Temperature 4°C. The choke valve opens approx. 1/16th with the engine turning over by the starter motor. It fluctuates with the suction periods. When the engine fires it is held open approx. 1/8th. The mixture is too strong immediately the engine has started firing. The return spring should be weaker to allow further opening of the choke valve. The wet petrol causes the oil to be washed off the pistons and knocks are prevalent. Approximately five minutes are required before the choke can be fully released under the present cold conditions. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/G.W.H. | ||
