re:- 14-MX.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}

CWB. and I took a run extending for an hour on this car yesterday, and we understood we were to consider two points only :-

A.{Mr Adams} The springing, from the point of view of the seat cushions having been altered to a shape and condition more like our standard cushions.

B. The axle gears, having been altered to the proposed hypoid form. –

because we have already reported on this car in CWB14/GM5.5.28 in all other important respects.

Yesterday there was nothing to remark on about the axle, it being quite satisfactory from the point of view of sound.

The rear cushions which have been altered, although improved, were far from being representative of our latest practice. One felt support for the back was carried not far enough up the shoulders, and also at the shoulders there was no thickness of squabbing, so that one could lean back suddenly and feel as if one had hit the board, also the depth of the cushion at the rear was insufficient, and one could come on to the board at that point also, on a bad road. The seat still seemed to want breadth, and also more raising at the front. We did not sit on the front of this car again for the reason given.

So far as the springing is concerned, our previous impression was confirmed, that there was inadequate shock absorber control, and that the new form of springing will probably be very satisfactory if this point were attended to. It is hoped that the new viscosity modification which is giving very promising results experimentally will greatly improve this last feature.
