R-R Front Wheel Brake Lubrication.

Attention may be directed at the number of points on the R-R front wheel brake system which require lubrication.
There are, however, two points which must be borne in mind when discussing the possible effect of neglect on the part of the owner.

In the first place, the angular movement of the shafts throughout the R-R system is exceptionally small due to the great power of the servo and consequent low leverage necessary.

As an example, the maximum movement ever attained by the front brake shaft, whose bearings are provided with four lubricating points, is about 20°, it will therefore be apparent that the wear on these bearings will be exceptionally light, and even if no lubrication whatever is administered for considerable periods, the life of the system will not be appreciably affected.

Again, on the Perrot and other systems, the cam forcing the brake shoes apart is operated by a rod running directly from the frame, and having a universal joint at each end. These universal joints are in perpetual movement when the car is in motion due to the displacement of the front axle, and any lack of attention at this point will immediately produce serious results. In the R-R system all this is eliminated by cable connection to the front axle.

The other serious effect which lack of lubrication has on the ordinary system is to reduce its mechanical efficiency so much that the driver
