-2- NO. 5 BED. BENTLEY III NO. 3 UNIT. This unit as fitted on bed for lining up purposes has incorrect cylinder head which should be removed and correct one fitted (.030 gasket in Klingerite which Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} will supply). Following running in tests to be carried out are :- (1) Power curve open exhaust. (2) Power and detonation characteristic with std. Bentley silencer running on Red-Line. Give max. power, non detonating power also advance in the two conditions. (3) As (2) with varied valve timings to see if any position where power loss to exhaust system is reduced. ½ early and ½ tooth late. (4) A Bentley III manifold has been instructed for trial of 2 separate Bentley exhaust systems, and other than power loss improvement should also be noted as to whether reduced back pressure effect improvement on detonations. (5) Special anti-surge valve springs are fitted which should be checked to note if any improvement and at what speed bounce occurs. (6) Check with and without the cam balance plungers also with 1 and 2 plungers fitted for rattle. Dependent upon whether the unit is wanted for chassis further tests specified later. No. 2 BED. SINGLE CYLINDER UNIT. Repeat ignition advance tests and non detonation with No.4 cylinder head (inclined valve) with two spark plug positions also intermediate position. | ||
