| To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} 824 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.3/JH.1.12.36. We send you herewith Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}264, which shows a proposal to reduce the production costs of the Bentley and 25/30 HP. fans. Briefly, this consists of using the same fan on both cars, and using the following pieces for the fan construction. (1) 25/30 HP. fan blade assembly. (2) New fan hub. (3) Bentley ball races. (4) New spindle turned from 1.000 dia. S/M and spindle nut deleted. (5) Ph.III method of belt adjustment modified as shown on Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}264. (6) New fan bracket - combined with top water outlet. (7) Modified the pulley angles to compensate for for variation in section of the belts (EB.221) when passing round the pulleys. We have also modified the pulley diameter so that we can use this fan on both Bentley and 25/30 cars, the alteration in speed ratio being affected by altering the external dias. of the Bentley and 25/30 driving pulleys to 4.430" and 5.950" respectively If successful on test we shall also try this fan (with a Ph.III set of blades) on a Ph.III car. We wish the hub to be given .015 end clearance as shown on drawing in order to obviate necessity for fine limits on the ball race locating seats. | ||
