SALES DIRECTOR'S OFFICE.

28th July 1933.

Messrs. Rolls Royce Ld,
DERBY.

"Attention of Mr.H.West"

Dear Sirs,

Further in reference to your recent complaint regarding a burnt out Petrol Gauge tank unit. Our Electrical Engineer, Mr.Russell, has reported on this as follows:-

"The Tank attachment about which Mr.West complained had burnt out in the tank has now been examined and returned to Service Department. I find that the resistance was burnt out and that apart from charring of the bakelite there was no defect in the tank unit itself. It was specially tested at 500 volts for insulation and resistance to "earth" and was found to be absolutely satisfactory.

The cause of the burn out must, therefore, have been due to an "earth" on the cable having developed while the car was in service.

I would add, however, that even with the resistance unit burning out as it did, there was absolutely no risk of fire being caused in the petrol tank."

Yours faithfully,
For S.SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES) LD.
