In reply to your memo. concerning the field connections for Goshawk 11. dynamo and brush holder insulation, we send you herewith drawing No. LeC 1590.

On this drawing we have put into operation an idea which we have had in hand for some time namely, to join the field connections on to the brush holder nuts on the near side of the brushes instead of the further side of the brushes. This prevents the field connections ever crossing over the brush holders proper, and enables us to use the .125 wide surface insulation that you ask for. We have been enabled to do this by making the window larger through the end cover through which the terminals and conductors are passed when assembling the machine.

The insulation for the 2 main brushes is made in one piece, to provide the maximum of safety on the surface between the brush holders.

The insulation may come rather close to the spokes of the dynamo commutator, but we presume you have already tried this and found it to be a practical clearance.

We should be glad if you would put the alterations in hand in accordance with LeC 1590.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
