BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to BJ. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} H7420 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/M21.9.28. 'SS{S. Smith}' FRONT AXLE. X.7420 X.7810 X.457 We send herewith N.sch.2718 shewing the axle with 1" increased drop modified to give 1.750 offset between the pivot and the wheel, and increasing the distance between the plane of the wheel and the pivot by maintaining the original 2° pivot inclination. Advantage has been taken of these modifications to rebuild the wire wheel, so that the overall distance between the hubs is still further reduced, all these alterations having a tendency to lessen the probability of high speed wobbles occurring, as well as reducing steering shocks. Though we believe you have got some distance with N.sch.2625 we think the Expl: Dept: will consider the advantages of this new axle sufficiently great to justify going on with it in preference to N.sch.2625. We also send N.sch.2719 giving further views of the side steering lever for the above axle. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
