+8430 BJ3/DN31.8.25. TO Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM BJ c. to CJ c. " R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. " Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. " BY Re: STEERING - NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM I - (ALSO GOSHAWK IN A LESS DEGREE). With reference to R1/M28.8.25, CJ wishes the four items, viz:- (1) Hydraulic shock-dampers on front axle, (2) Damped spring driven pendulum lever, (3) Larger diameter of worm and slower steering, (4) Hydraulic rear shock-dampers, to be tested for 10,000 miles as quickly as possible. We presume it will be best to start testing these at once on a separate car specially sent to France for this purpose. It is realised that the test will probably only start with one or two of these alterations and that the other alterations will be added as soon as they are made and can be fitted as it is worth while starting at once to test any one of these alterations pending the completion of the others. It is particularly important, in view of the fact that manufacture of these parts is put in hand whilst the test is taking place. This suggestion is in accordance with R's suggestion that we should obtain further road experience parallel with production. B.J. | ||
