x206 S/W To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re Bentley Brakes. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}3/E22.6.36 I am naturally very much concerned about the brake judder situation on the 4 1/4-litre. In Hancock's long report on B-56-BN{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} covering the period 18/2 to 3/4 and covering a distance of 17,000 miles, he indicates on Page 5 that they have been having a good deal of front brake judder but an examination of the daily reports between those dates reveals no mention of it. The first mention of a severe judder is on the report dated the 11th April, i.e. after this report. I should be glad if you could ascertain before we discuss the matter at Derby whether it is correct that he did not have any troubles during the first 17,000 miles as, if so, it might be helpful to know that the trouble is not likely to develop until the linings have had considerable wear and have perhaps become hardened or partly burnt. Another point on which it would be useful to have information is whether any modification was made to the springs or brakes between the end of the 17,000 miles report and the beginning of the next phase during which he appears to have had considerable judder.
