X.4378 - SHEET METAL BATTERY BOX FOR 20 HP.

We have had running on a chassis an experimental sheet metal battery box to Arrgt. Eng. F.52505+

The condition of this box after 33,293 miles running is quite good. Though we do not know of any definite complaint of the present standard battery boxes of wood with metal re-inforcements, it may be considered that the present sheet metal box is a better job, though probably somewhat more expensive.

It is arranged with Ms. that on his next visit to W.W. he will bring this box down for your inspection.

It is suggested that the box might be improved with drain holes, and it has been suggested to the D.O. that battery boxes generally might be improved by allowing ventilation in the lid.{A. J. Lidsey}

Attached are copies of my assistant's reports JB.73 and JB.119.
