X.4473.20 H.P. CHASSIS MAGNETO HIGH TENSION WIRE.

We are of the opinion from the results of observations made on the condition of this wire on a number of chassis after running a considerable mileage, that the arrangement of the run of this wire is not completely satisfactory.

At present it requires a number of small fittings and studs in the crankcase. Further where it passes through the long fibre tube along the crankcase, there is a tendency to swell and rather rapidly perish due to the presence of oil and petrol and the temperature which the wire attains.

It has been noted, that when 20 H.P. cars are overhauled after running a considerable time, that it is practically impossible to pull the wire out of the tube without scrapping both wire and tube.

It is suggested as an alternative method of running this H.T. wire, to run it vertically upwards from the crankcase at the rear of the engine then through the main H.T. wiring tube. The H.T. wire at the distributor end would then come out behind the battery ignition distributor, and could be suitably clipped with a single clip to either the cylinder block or the crankcase en route.

In this way the wire would not only be quite unobtrusive, but apparently would save the amount of time now spent in arranging the present fittings and the bakelite mouldings.
