Dear Mr. Smith,

Thank you so much for your letter and your information on steels, it is most useful.

We are going to try out some gears in one or two of these steels, and at the present moment are looking round for somebody to cyanide them for us. We wonder whether, should we have any difficulty in locating someone who can do the job and who may be expected to be thoroughly familiar with the process, we could ask you to harden these gears for us. We naturally shall be only too pleased to pay for this job.

We shall be interested to know how you are going on with your oil consumption.

We have had remarkable results from the Aerolite pistons running in the Bentley, and if you are not out of the wood suggest it would be worth your while to put a set in one of your little cars and see what results you can obtain. Being such a small size cylinder these pistons should give particularly good results. I do know that they have been using them on the Minx throughout its career, and that this car is remarkably economical with oil. The advantage of the Aerolite piston is that at high speeds it still holds the rings square with the bore because it has practically no flexibility.

With kind regards.

Yours sincerely,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
