Buckley Patent Adjustable Tappets.

Re Db.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}11/JL.1.4.35.

We have read the letter from Mr. Buckley, but we do not consider that he has answered the general criticisms given in our previous memo.

We are not interested in adjustable tappet mechanisms unless, amongst others, they satisfy the following requirements :-

(1) The tappet must be self adjusting to compensate for expansion or contraction of the valve relative to the cylinder head and for wear.

(2) The mechanism must not add appreciably to the inertia of the valve gear.

(3) There must be no moving parts which may give rise to noise.

(4) There must be no extra load on the cam follower when the valve is closed.

The Buckley device does not fulfil these requirements.
