Dear Sirs,

Re: Short Wheelbase Bentley MX{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}-B-5.

Further to our letter of the 30th ult., we would like to inform you that it has been decided to increase the front track of the above car by one inch. It will be necessary to increase the width over the front wings by this amount.

We suggest that as the rear track is to remain unchanged, there is no reason for increasing the width of the running board and rear wings. However, since the clearance for the latter is rather fine when using 6.5 section tyres we suggest that the overall width of the rear wings be increased by .500 inches.

We have no desire to increase the over-all width of the running boards, because there is no need to step on them when getting into or out-of the car. Rather would we reduce the overall width to 62.000 inches sweeping the front wing in after passing the side spare wheel well. Since the running board becomes then very narrow and is not to be trodden upon, we suggest that it need not be covered with a rubber tread, a twofold saving in weight is effected therefore.

Will you please arrange to have these modifications set out on the full size drawing, when the writer calls on you towards the middle of the week.

Yours faithfully,
FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.

Car Project Office.
