EX/MS. c. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale} c. De/Hdy.{William Hardy} 666. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}15/G.1.7.38. REAR SPRINGS - SILVER WRAITH. We attach hereto FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}213 shewing 56 ins. x 2.25 rear springs applied to Silver Wraith. FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}213 shews the front end of the spring with its attachment and the necessary modifications to the frame and fittings. The corresponding scheme for the rear end of the spring FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}217 will follow immediately. It will be seen that the body brackets and step-irons have been re-spaced. The brake countershaft is placed behind the frame tie between the side member and the cross, which is moved backwards approx. .375 ins. A modified spring seat on the axle is called for due to the increase in the spring width to 2.250 ins. The brake and axle modifications we are leaving to be dealt with by the Section responsible. Although these 56 ins. springs are at the moment thought of in connection with Silver Wraith, it will be necessary to apply these to B.3 and B.50 eventually, in order to maintain the interchangeability of the frame and fittings and petrol tank. They cannot be used on a car for which the body has already been built to suit a chassis with 50 in. rear springs unless it is ascertained that it is possible to alter the body to suit the revised position of the body brackets on the frame.
