202 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}11/AP. Experimental Department 11th June 1937. The Hoffmann Manufacturing Co., CHELMSFORD, Essex Dear Sirs, As you may know, we use an R.317.E. bearing for the straddle mounting of the pinion in our Bentley rear axles. We are wondering what are the likely limits of radial slackness in this bearing assuming that they are a light push fit both on the inside and outside diameters. We should also be glad if you would let us know whether you would have any objection to these bearings running with no slack whatever, or whether this would impair their load carrying capacity. On the back axle this bearing has to take journal load only so possibly you would suggest a bearing of another type if absence of radial slack is of great importance. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
