To EY. from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. to DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} X5450 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/LG7.1.27. 20 HP. SIDE STEERING TUBE. X5450 X5430 The following are the results of the experiments carried out up to date on the 20 HP. side steering tubes. We recommend that for pre-front brake cars N.sch.2308 should be fitted with the strengthened tube and springs of rating 600 lbs. (F.54759). In the event of the production of N.sch.2308 being held up, the alternative is to fit the arrangement which is at present on these cars i.e. unequal springs. For front wheel brake cars we recommend the minimum number of ends with F.54584 to use up existing material. These incorporate 1100 lbs. opposed springs. After disposing of this material, N.sch.2308 should be used with F.54754 springs, rating 900 lbs/1". We suggest that we should not order too many 900 lbs./1" rating springs until we have concluded our experiments, with the various springs at present under consideration.
