SpectreCodename for Phantom III Crankshaft Damper.

We have fitted the larger crankshaft damper with the maximum inertia to No.1 car. Previously we had tried the original damper at loads varying from 18 to 45 lbs. at 17 3/4" without being able to eliminate the period. The large damper at 20 lbs. load was little improvement, but at 26 lbs. made it very difficult to detect the period.

The crankshaft period on SpectreCodename for Phantom III cars is usually not noticeable when the clutch pedal is sprung upwards. If the driver's foot is resting on this pedal accidentally or with a view to changing gear, the period is immediately audible.

We are going to experiment with a heavier main flywheel as it is possible that its amplitude of swing during a torsional vibration is not negligible. We will report on this in due course.

We are still in trouble with the damper fabrics getting insufficient lubrication. The scheme suggested by E/Jnr.{Charles L. Jenner} on No.1 car does not provide lubrication at high friction loads. Above a load of about 25 lbs. no oil seems to get on the fabrics.
