WHEEL DISCS.

With reference to Mr. Nutt's letter, attached, I was speaking to Mr. Royce yesterday with regard to why we advise customers to have steel artillery wheels.

R.{Sir Henry Royce} said that he was not satisfied that discs really made some R.R. cars noisier.

Do you think that we should make further tests to convince ourselves that discs do really make some R.R. cars noisier, whereas on other R.R. cars discs do not affect the noise?

Is it possible that discs may make an axle which would not sound noisy with wire wheels, into a noisy axle; whereas a more silent axle would not be noisy either with wire wheels or disc wheels? Or is it possible that the shape of the body may affect the increased noise when discs are fitted?
