being thrown up into the trigger mechanism. These small stones are spread about during the ice and snow periods. Since fitting a guard over the trigger mechanism we appear to have overcome this trouble.

We have experienced considerable trouble with Girling Expander Units fitted inside brake drums. The only car which has been trouble free in this respect is 10. B.V. which has the Expander Unit Pistons chromium plated. Something of this description will have to be done on production after the war.

Spring Interleaving.

We have tried various types of interleaving such as Jackson Board and Spauldite with and with out tufnol tips, but none of them have been really satisfactory. More work will have to be done with interleaving before we suggest anything for production.

Clutch.

We have had no further trouble with Trunnion Races since elongating the cages and giving adequate clearance between the pedal stem and the floor board. We have had four Clutch Pressure Plates cracked on B.80 Engines and we consider this due to the fitting of light Clutch Pressure Springs and consequent clutch slip. Since fitting stronger Springs to 4.B.50 and 30 G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} VII, we have run 27,000 miles, without any trouble.

Propellor Shaft.

Nothing further has been done regarding Propellor Shaft vibrations which develop after a few thousand miles other than re-balancing same with a Jubilee Clip which temporarily cures the trouble.

Water Pumps.

We appear to have overcome our Water Pump troubles by the latest type pump which has run satisfactory on the following cars:-

Total Mileage.

9.B.V. 17,200 }
4.B.50 29,200 } 88,400
30.G.VII 42,000 }

Rattles in Transmission.

The setting of the clutch centre plate friction disc at 17/27 lbs. ft. appears to have cured our troubles.
