ORIGINAL TO [REDACTED] FROM DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} SECRET DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}I/30.II.3I. COPY TO [REDACTED] HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} x5700. x5380. RE REAR END OF CAR. J.3. You will have already received from us the full-sized schemes of the petrol tank, rear apron and luggage grid, N.Sch.3376-7. We are now sending you N.Sch.3382, a 1/4 scale layout of the back of the car. This illustrates the neat finish of the body with the rear wing and apron containing the luggage grid, and also shews how we are proposing to deal with the rear cushion and the wheel arch. The rear axle is shewn bumped about and axis at the centre of a line joining the rear spring eyes. The wheelarch clearances are given, in fact much information is included which will enable you to begin to produce an elementary Chassis Print. The exhaust swan-neck pipe is shewn in plan, so this in conjunction with N.Sch. 3386-8. will enable you to instruct this pipe. Particulars of the support of the rest of the F.2. short chassis/exhaust silencer will follow shortly. It will be noticed that the maximum room available in the rear compartment of a maximum body is one inch greater in this car than on the 25HP. This will be of great help on our six seater cars. There is less turn-under of the rear panel. We have shewn the frame heights and clearances for both 18ins. & 19ins. rims, as if the former are satisfactory when we try them shortly on the 25HP. we most likely shall wish to use them on J.3.
