Dear Mr. Ward,

DOOR SEAL - I am sending herewith a small piece of sponge rubber door seal. You will note that this has been torn out, which happened through the door being frozen in a closed position, and it required all my strength to open it. In some circumstances, this sort of thing might, as you will no doubt appreciate, cause a great deal of trouble and inconvenience.

This was undoubtedly due to the sponge rubber absorbing moisture and the only cure that I can suggest is that the sealing rubber should have a thin, good quality waxed skin. If you would take this up with your suppliers and if they can supply such a thing, I should like to have a few yards, so that I can replace that which is already damaged.

This actual rubber was taken from 9-B-V, which Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} is running at the moment.

TUBULAR SEATS OF THE VANVOOREN TYPE - In some of the seats that you have had fitted, which are of the VANVOOREN type, with the single tube supporting the back, there has been trouble through the tubes giving and allowing the seat back to slope backwards as much as two and three inches from the original position. To overcome this trouble, we have had flat strips welded diagonally across the bottom corner. Should you have to make any more seats of this type, I would suggest that you get the makers to reinforce the corners, as you probably know, this is an old complaint that was very prevalent with the first tubular seats.

With kind regards,

Yours sincerely,
