X7510 To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/LG31.1.29. 'SS{S. Smith}' VACUUM PUMP. X7510 X7460 With further reference to the vacuum pump. We asked GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} to carry out a test for us on the car in France to see what actually was happening when his tank was nearly empty and there was no petrol in the autovac. The results of this test are as follows :- "We have carried out a test today for Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}'s information : With 2 gallons of petrol in the rear tank it took 4 mins. 54 2/5 secs. to suck one pt. of petrol, with the starter motor turning theengine over at the rate of 68 revs./min. With 1 gallon of petrol in the reartank we could get no suction. There elapses approximately 20 secs. between each period of delivery".
