81282 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/Thn19/AH.1.12.33 COPY OF REPORT FROM TESTER JACKSON IN BELGIUM DATED 29.11.33 re NEW FUEL D.T.D.224 NOW IN USE IN BELGIUM --------------------------------------------- "The batch of this fuel has now arrived in Belgium and has been put into operation. The changing over brought on, as I suggested, over-boosting at the gate. We have today at the Service Technique made tests on 7 machines and all engines have had to be re-gated; the increase from the original setting was 50 to 55 grams per cm squared. The Ministry have ordered that no machines shall fly until the gates have been reset according to instructions which they will issue at once. I have received direct from the General a request to visit at once each station in turn and they shall put all machines out running for me to see. Today the ground temperature was -4ºC and it was noticed that the carburation was much cleaner in the warming up stages; this is a great improvement compared with the old fuel, and as soon as weather permits performances for carburation in flight are to be made. For your information, all stations report that the new fuel has increased the take-off boost." (sgd) D.Jackson | ||
