86006. WST To: "W", DERBY SEVRES Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/VA3/19.12.32 re Batteries for French Phantom II Chassis. With reference to your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.2/MA.7.12.32, we are pleased to see that you agree in principle to the suggestion made in our Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}6/Dn.29.11.32 re the fitting of certain French Electrical accessories on French chassis. Concerning the question of BATTERIES, we today paid a visit to the Slem Battery Works, and they have prepared for us a battery which they claim is suitable for Phantom II chassis. They maintain that it could replace the standard "Exide" Battery on cars coming to France, as well as for replacement purposes. The Battery submitted to us is fully charged, and has the following principal characteristics: 1º 75 Ampère Hours at the 10-Hour rate 2º Total weight fully charged 20 Kgs, (44 lbs) 3º Length 269 m/m (10.19/32") 4º Width 154 m/m (6.1/16") 5º Height 266 m/m (10.15/32") As to the question of quality raised in your memo, the "Slem" is one of the best, and most known of French batteries The makers give one year's guarantee. The Slem people are at present building a battery as above, complete with cover, which will be sent to us in a dry state in a few days time, and upon receipt of same we propose sending it to you for examination and test, so that you will be able to form your own opinion as to workmanship, quality, etc., The sale price to a customer of a 6-Volt element would be Fcs.480.- whilst the cost price to us would work out to .... Fcs.210.- net. If it is decided to adopt the battery on French chassis, as well as for replacement purposes, it would be known as the "6.Ph.II Slem". Concerning the 20/25 HP Chassis, we hope to be in a position to write you in a few days time re a suitable battery. As requested by you, we enclose Slem's standard catalogue. Concerning the third paragragh of your memo, Messrs Slem inform us that the battery you tested must have been one of their make. "Hm{Capt. W.
