Roy{Sir Henry Royce}, from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst
c. G/Cn.{Mr Chamberain}

Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.5/ADL8.12.31.

With reference to C/Cn{Mr Chamberain}/CAL{Mr Calvert}1/NL17.12.31 regarding the sample Smith electric clock. This clock was returned to Messrs. Smith & Sons as not being suitable for further test, being referred to in our letter Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.1/AD. of the 1st inst. We understood that this clock was sent to us on the basis of test and return in which case there should be no charge made. Apparently this was not understood by Messrs. Smiths in view of the invoice sent along. However, as we have returned this clock see Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.2/ADL.12.31 addressed to D/BP, we would suggest that Messrs. Smith be approached again in this matter regarding withdrawing their invoice.

The whole question of electric clocks was fully discussed with Dr. Watson and Mr. Nicholls of Smith & Sons, last week and the matter of Smith electric clocks is entirely in abeyance so there should be no difficulty in making suitable arrangements with Messrs. Smiths.

Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.
