EXPERIMENTAL REPORT.

Expl. No. 4594 REF: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG7.11.23.

Water Pump Drive. The fabric coupling on the water pump drive was in a very ragged condition.

Oil Pump. Oil pump bearings were very badly scored. We are sending this to W.W.

General. The appearance of the inside of the engine is not very good. The condition is worse than the cars which we examined after 10,000 miles in France. The engine has been lubricated with Prices 'C' oil. Recently we have not been very satisfied with the results of this oil on experimental cars.

Gearbox. All parts of the gearbox are in excellent condition. There is no apparent wear in any part.

Rear Axle. Generally, the rear axle and differential are in excellent condition. The brake operating shafts were well lubricated. One of the thrust washers on the bevel pinion had commenced to break up on the surface. The brake drums are worn and grooved where the foot brake rubs. The brake liners were in excellent condition.

Front axle. The pivot pins, ball ends and hubs were all well lubricated and no apparent wear. The pivot pins and bushes were exceptionally good on this car which we suggest proves that if we could only get these parts well lubricated, there should be very little trouble with wear.

Steering. Generally, all parts of the steering were in good condition and well lubricated. The bedding of the nut at the finish of the worm is not very good.

Propeller shaft. The universal joints at both ends of the propeller shaft were found to be well lubricated. There was no apparent wear on the joints.

Shock Absorbers. The rear shock absorbers were found to be filled with oil. The ball joints on all shock absorbers were in very good condition and no apparent wear.

Spring shackles and Pins. The pins and bushes for front springs were very good for lubrication. The pins and bushes on the rear springs were short of lubrication. On the whole there was very little wear on the shackles - there were no rattles or knocks coming from these at the completion of the test.

Fan. The bearings of the fan appeared to be almost dry. A slight amount of slack was found in the bearings which had been turning round in the housing.

Valves. No appreciable wear of valves or guides.

Clutch. All the parts of the clutch were in excellent condition.
