1245 To Rolls-Royce Ltd. Derby.......... Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Copy to D/BP. Levallois Sr/VA/ET.26.6.39 Re: CHASSIS WXA.14 - Mr. POBEREJSKY We confirm the conversation we had with you over the telephone this afternoon, to the effect that we require a set of raised crown pistons (H.C.) for the above car. As the owner needs the car for next Friday, kindly arrange to have them sent by return and by air mail. We also confirm that the owner paid us a visit this morning and was in a very bad frame of mind, stating that the performance of the car with regard to acceleration and speed was very poor, especially with regard to acceleration. He talked about sending the car to Derby, etc.. if we could not guarantee to give him satisfaction. After we talked matters over with him he cooled down a bit. With reference to our Sr/VAI/ET.20.6.39 re WRB.46, Mr. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} La{L. A. Archer} Montagne, we note that, as per your telegram of the 20th instant, you informed us that the special pistons you dispatched for this car would raise the compression by half a ratio and we understood, during our conversation with you on the telephone today that the pistons you intend to dispatch for the above car (WXA.14) will give a higher compression ratio than those sent for WRB.46. As Mr. Poberejsky wants the maximum performance as regards acceleration, we suggest that the compression should be raised to the permissible limit. It will be of interest to us to know how many types of raised crown pistons are available for Wraith chassis and the ratio they give. We attach to D/BP.'s copy of this memo our Official Order N° 3078 for the above, plus one set for stock. Sr/VA. | ||
