Engineer} For the attention of Mr.Hardy, Experimental Dept., Dear Sirs, "410" type Steering Gear. Referring to your telephone call of this afternoon when you advised that the Roller, due to the failure of the balls, had again failed in the experimental Steering Gear of the above size. As mentioned on the telephone, we do not recommend the ball type Roller in this size Steering Gear, neither does America, and it is only the Vauxhall people who take the ball type Roller. However, they, at our request, are trying out the Needle type Roller and there is every indication that they will be immediately turning over to the Needle type. Vauxhall to date have had between 2,500 and 3,000 Steering Gears of this size and the failures due to this fault total three, naturally quite sufficient to cause them some concern; hence the reason for them giving consideration to the Needle type at our recommendation.
