X.3457 RE MATERIAL FOR REAR AXLE CASING.

With reference to your memo Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}8/NJ22.12.20,
regarding the above, I did remember By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} suggesting 3½%
Nickel, but my impression is that he gave me to under-
stand that the forgings would be as easy to make and
for about the same cost, so quite naturally I agreed.

Now you say they are more difficult and costly,
and I remark that good mild steel heat treated should
be quite satisfactory for this part, and suggest we
return to this material.
