X3454 To Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c.c. to CJ. c.c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c.c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} R6/G30.12.20. X. 3769. X.3457 RE MATERIAL FOR REAR AXLE CASING. With reference to your memo Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}8/NJ22.12.20, regarding the above, I did remember By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} suggesting 3½% Nickel, but my impression is that he gave me to understand that the forgings would be as easy to make and for about the same cost, so quite naturally I agreed. Now you say they are more difficult and costly, and I remark that good mild steel heat treated should be quite satisfactory for this part, and suggest we return to this material. | ||
