In coupling the frame and engine together with parallel motion linkage for the purpose of adding torsion rigidity to the frame, it appears desirable to avoid levers and links in which slack may develop, because of the reversible nature of the load.

The torsional oscillation of the crank-chamber from which the frame must be isolated is so small dimensionally that we venture to suggest the possible application of a well known form of parallel motion, but using rigidly coupled flexible links which can bend slightly in place of pin joints.

A factor that enters into consideration of this problem is the expansion of the crankcase longitudinally by heat which would have the effect of stressing the members of the linkage. This effect might be considerable minimised by making the intermediate parallel member of some material of high expansibility such as aluminium, which being located under the bonnet would assume some intermediate temperature between the frame and crankcase, and conform approximately to the distortion produced.
