Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}2/MH{M. Huckerby} 13th June, 1938 Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., D E R B Y. For the attention of G.H.Grylls, Esq. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 10th inst. and regret to note that the sample D.W.S. Portable hydraulic Jack is giving trouble. You will remember on the occasion of the first failure of this jack, you promised to let the writer have this for examination but unfortunately it was sent direct to our works who repaired it in the ordinary way and returned the same jack to you. It is possible that the trouble was not properly located and was caused in the first case by some plating getting on to the inside bore of the ram tube. This explanation was also put forward in our letter of April 5th, 1938. The plating referred to has now been eliminated altogether in connection with these jacks as it was found impossible always to guarantee that it did not affect the inside bore. We understand that you are kindly arranging to send the defective jack to Willesden for the writer's attention, and immediately we have had an opportunity of examining this we will report to you fully. -contd- | ||
