EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT.

Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}7/JH.

21st. August, 1939.

Metropolis Garages Ltd.,
Olympia,
LONDON.W.14.

For the attention of L.F.Dyer, Esq.

Dear Sirs,

Since Mr. Hall's telephone message with Mr. Martindale in which you asked for the name of the paint used to protect aero engines when used in boats, we have tried to find out the name of this paint from the department concerned the result being as follows :-

"In reply to your Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}3/MH.{M. Huckerby}18.8.39. we do not use any special paint on Marine Merlin engines to prevent corrosion. The British Power Boat Co. paint all their engines white but in order not to produce too great a diversity in production, we are at present still painting the engines black with the standard paint used for the aero engine and then they are painted white over the top of this by the British Power Boat Co."

Since they take no precautions to protect their engines from sea water corrosion, we imagine you need only paint your engine in the same way.

Yours faithfully,
FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
