X 1166 FILE Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Bwg.{J. C. Bowring}6/KW.9.12.35. Failures of the "Jackall" System on 21-G-IV. (1) After 19 days' running the front junction box fractured at the union. (2) N/S rear Jack leaked past the gland and was removed after approx. 1 month's running (3) On trying to use the front Jacks at a later date the offside front Jack leaked past the gland before the Jacks had taken the weight of the car. In connection with this, the release valve failed to operate. The car then returned to Derby, and the nearside rear and offside front Jacks were replaced. (4) The offside rear and nearside front Jacks then leaked past the glands. (5) Having replaced all Jacks and fitted a new pump, the pipe connection to the front junction box failed three times. Having rectified this trouble the car was jacked up and left standing for approx. 18 hours. During the next few days the car was raised and lowered at various intervals and we reported that so far the system was holding good. However, the car had stood for a little while after this and it was then decided to jack it up again, but failed due to the pipe connection blowing out once more, since when the system has been left as other work had to be done on the car.
